Water company plans line in township’s north

The proposed Edinburg-Hillsville Sanitary Sewer Line would serve 591 homes.

HILLSVILLE, Pa. — Mahoning Township supervisors announced Tuesday that the Pennsylvania-American Water Co. intends to furnish public water to an area in the northern part of the township.

It includes Coffee Run, Skyhill, Ambrosia, River and Hillsville roads and parts of U.S. Route 422.

A tariff request was filed with the state Public Utilities Commission which will reserve potential waterline installation in that area for Pennsylvania-American. The area is near the site of Indianapolis-based Centaur Inc.’s planned racetrack-casino. No date was set for the water project.

Supervisors also announced that door-to-door surveys are being conducted in preparation for a planned sanitary sewer line. The proposed Edinburg-Hillsville Sanitary Sewer Line would serve 591 homes.

Representatives from RAR Engineering, the township’s engineers, are going to homes on the proposed line and surveying residents on whether they need a first floor or basement connection. All funding is not yet in place and no starting date has been set for the project.
