NHL ROUNDUP | Tuesday’s other games

Blues 4, Red Wings 3

ST. LOUIS — Rookie David Perron scored twice in St. Louis’ four-goal second period and the St. Louis Blues rallied from two down to beat the Detroit Red Wings. The Blues, who snapped a three-game losing streak, fell behind 2-0 but stormed back in the middle frame against goalie Dominik Hasek. Keith Tkachuk and Jamal Mayers joined Perron in the scoring spurt, and the final three goals came in a span of four shots. Pavel Datsyuk, Dan Cleary and Valtteri Filppula scored for Detroit, who lost the lead in the second period despite holding a 17-7 shots advantage in the frame. The Red Wings dropped their second straight following a nine-game winning streak. Tkachuk’s sixth of the season, scored during a 5-on-3 power play, cut the deficit to 2-1 at 5:09. Tkachuk put in a rebound of Lee Stempniak’s from the left corner.

Canadiens 4, Maple Leafs 3, OT

TORONTO — Montreal defenseman Mike Komisarek scored 35 seconds into overtime to lift the Montreal Canadiens to victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Komisarek intercepted Bryan McCabe’s errant pass at the Montreal blue line and skated in on a breakaway, beating Andrew Raycroft with a forehand deke between the pads to the delight of the many Canadiens fans in the Air Canada Centre. Montreal rookie goalie Carey Price made his first career start against the Leafs and didn’t disappoint, stopping 37 shots and keeping his team alive on a night Toronto had the better chances. Price made a big blocker save on McCabe just moments before the defenseman’s blunder. Alexei Kovalev, Andrei Kostitsyn and Andrei Markov also scored for the Canadiens, who beat the Maple Leafs for the first time this season in three tries (1-1-1). Kyle Wellwood had his first two goals of the season, and Boyd Devereaux also scored for the Maple Leafs, who gave up a 3-2 lead in the third period. The teams took turns dominating in the opening two periods, Montreal coming out strong but found goalie Andrew Raycroft more than up to the challenge. He couldn’t turn aside Markov’s shot during a 5-on-3 power play as Montreal took a 1-0 lead at 13:43. The Leafs turned the table in the second, completely controlling the play. Wellwood tied it 2:01 into the period, flipping a shot over Price after a super rush from Jiri Tlusty. It was Wellwood’s first of the season. Toronto kept pressing but Price made several dazzling saves, including during a 5-on-3 man advantage for the Leafs. Wellwood finally beat him again with 1:34 to go in the second period, putting a rebound over a sprawled Price with 2 seconds left on a roughing penalty to Markov.

Thrashers 3, Panthers 2

ATLANTA — Ilya Kovalchuk scored in the first minute of overtime, 27 seconds after Marian Hossa forced the extra period with a power-play goal in the Atlanta Thrashers’ victory over the Florida Panthers. Kovalchuk skated into the right circle when Todd White made a backhanded pass from the left boards. He stopped quickly and fired the puck under goalie Craig Anderson’s pads. Kovalchuk’s NHL-leading 15th goal gave the Thrashers their fourth win in five games. The 24-year-old Russian forward has 12 points, including nine goals, in his last six games. Florida has lost four straight and five of six. The Thrashers had a two-man skating advantage for the final 1:09 of regulation after coach Don Waddell pulled goalie Johan Hedberg, and Florida’s Gregory Campbell was penalized for tripping.
