Facts about the Revolutionary War era Fort Independence flag on display at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Cincinnati.

Ownership: The flag was found in a house in Boston when a member of a family by the name of Mooney bought it in 1902.

The name: Named for Fort Independence in Boston Harbor.

The design: Thirteen rows of alternating red and white stripes and a blue canton with 13 stars in rows of four-five-four.

How many: Two known. The only fully authenticated original Fort Independence flag is a larger version kept in the Massachusetts State House in Boston. A replica is displayed in the State House rotunda.
