YOUNGSTOWN — St. Andrewes African Methodist Episcopal Church, 521 W. Earle Ave., is having a turkey giveaway at 10:30 a.m. Sunday during the church service. Fifty turkeys will be given away on a first-come first-serve basis. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call the church offices at (330) 783-3242.

Shower trailer dedication

WARREN — Several area churches and individuals worked to create a trailer that will be used by volunteers working in disaster areas to wash their clothes and bathe themselves. The shower trailer will be dedicated at 2 p.m. Sunday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 140 Cherry Ave. The project was a two-year undertaking in coordinating fundraising to buy the trailer and its contents as well as building the inside. The trailer will be sent to Biloxi, Miss., after having returned from a test drive in flood areas of Ohio. Tours of the inside of the trailer will be given at Sunday’s event before the trailer heads to help those working to rebuild the Gulf Coast.

Free Sunday dinners

YOUNGSTOWN — Kingdom Meal Ministry is operating a feeding program site at Heart Reach Ministries, 211 Redondo Road, off Fifth Avenue. A free meal is offered from 5 to 5:45 p.m. every Sunday. The ministry also has an established site at the Salvation Army, 1501 Mahoning Ave., where a dinner is served at 5 p.m. Sundays. Pastor Rusty Wills is the ministry’s founder. Austintown adds officer

AUSTINTOWN — The township has hired a new police officer.

Aaron M. Franks, 25, was officially added to the police force Tuesday as he was sworn in at the regular trustees meeting.

Franks will replace Chad DeBarr, who was supposed to join the force with two other officers in September.

DeBarr declined the Austintown job after being sworn in to take a full-time position with Canfield’s police department instead, said Austintown Lt. Bryan Kloss.

Franks will begin his duties at Austintown on Nov. 25. He previously was a patrol officer for Mill Creek Metroparks Police.
