Niles man, Warren woman sued over movies on Internet
YOUNGSTOWN — An attorney has sued in federal court a Niles man and a Warren woman he says have used the software Kazaa to illegally share copyrighted movies on the Internet.
Kazaa is an Internet file-sharing service with which users can obtain and share movies on their computers. Its license agreement prohibits users from using the software to transmit, access or communicate data that infringes any patent, trademark or copyright.
Louis F. Wagner of Akron filed the suits in Youngstown against Ronald Mason, of 1220 5th St., Niles; and Deidre Glover, of 1102 Wood Ave., Warren.
Louis represents Disney Enterprises Inc., Paramount Pictures Corp. and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. in the lawsuit involving Mason.
He represents Columbia Pictures Industries, Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp. and Disney Enterprises Inc. in the lawsuit against Glover.
One suit said Mason used Kazaa to distribute copyrighted movies such as “The Lion King,” “The Incredibles,” “Goodfellas” and “Braveheart” on or about Jan. 24, 2005.
The suit seeks injunctive relief to stop Mason from further distributing the movies. It also seeks to have Mason destroy all copies of the movies he has in his possession and seeks unspecified monetary damages.
Mason could not be reached to comment.
The other lawsuit says Glover used Kazaa to share the movies “Roll Bounce,” “The Exorcism of Emily Rose,” “Sky High” and “Deuce Bigalow European Gigolo” on or about Oct. 24, Nov. 11, and Nov. 27, 2005. It seeks the same actions against Glover that the other lawsuit sought against Mason.
Glover also could not be reached for comment.
