Group seeks to save coaster
AURORA, Ohio (AP) — Roller coaster fans want to save the Big Dipper at Geauga Lake, the amusement park in Northeast Ohio that closed at the end of its season.
Carole Sanderson is the former president of American Coaster Enthusiasts. She says vthey’re looking for a developer to build a ride-themed retail complex around the 82-year-old Big Dipper.
The project also might preserve Geauga Lake’s ballroom and make it a museum celebrating amusement parks throughout the region that are now history.
Sanderson says she has spoken with a few investors who have expressed interest.
Sandusky-based Cedar Fair shut down Geauga Lake in September and says it’s not likely to reuse the Big Dipper at one of its other parks. A ride broker will offer the coaster for sale this week.
