Nine Valley players earn top district honors


East senior quarterback Sal Battles was named offensive player of the year in Div. II, one of nine Valley players to get top honors from the Northeast Inland district on Monday.

Howland senior lineman Josh Lott was the defensive player of the year in Div. II and Tigers coach Dick Angle was the coach of the year.

In Div. III, West Branch quarterback Steve McNeely was the offensive player of the year and Lakeview linebacker Kyle Smedi was the defensive player of the year.

In Div. IV, Mooney quarterback Dan McCarthy was the offensive player of the year, while Cardinals linebacker Michael Zordich was the defensive player of the year.

In Div. V, Ursuline quarterback Lamar McQueen was the offensive player of the year.

Warren JFK running back Jared Province was the offensive player of the year and Columbiana linebacker Josh Hertel was the defensive player of the year in Div. VI.
