YOUNGSTOWN — The public is invited to a free health and wellness seminar from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at First Christian Assembly, 3243 Cardinal Drive. No registration is required. Patty Brooks, registered nurse, will provide free blood pressure screenings. Dr. Shelva Christian of Florida will present three 45-minute common sense talks about getting to the root of health problems and reporting on the latest developments on finding greater vitality, wellness and longer life without drugs. Those sessions will start at 9 a.m. with 15-minute breaks in between talks. She has doctorates from Clayton College of Natural Health, Birmingham, Ala., and Trinity College of Natural Health in Warsaw, Ind. Both schools feature an intense focus on nutrition.
Flu shots for Niles kids
NILES — The Niles Health Department is offering flu shots for children from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at its city hall offices, 34 W. State St. It’s for children age 6 months and older. For those who do not have Medicare, Medicaid or Anthem Senior Advantage cards, the injection is $15. No appointment is needed.
Help for Christmas
COLUMBIANA — Needy families can register for Christmas help from The Way Station in Columbiana from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday. People may call (330) 482-5072. People should bring a photo ID and proof of their residence and income. Needy families in Lisbon should contact the Lisbon Way Station at (330) 424-5255. Residents of the southern portion of the county should contact the East Liverpool Way Station at (330) 386-4172.
McKeever movie nights
SANDY LAKE, Pa. — The chill of fall is in the air, signaling the start of movie nights at McKeever Environmental Learning Center, 55 McKeever Lane. Movie nights will take place at 7 p.m. Dec. 7, Jan. 11, Feb. 8 and March 7. The Dec. 7 show will feature the “Planet Earth” series. The series is from the filmmakers at the Discovery Channel and the winner of four Emmy Awards from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The 11-part series shows viewers never-before-seen animal behaviors, startling views of locations captured by cameras for the first time, and unprecedented high-definition production techniques. Award-winning actress and conservationist Sigourney Weaver is the series’ narrator. Popcorn and refreshments will be provided. The program is free to the public.
Jazz band concert
ALLIANCE — The Mount Union College Department of Music will present a jazz band concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Presser Recital Hall. The band is directed by Jonathan Willis. The concert will feature Jerry Gray’s “A String of Pearls”; Bill Finnegan’s “Little Brown Jug”; Neal Hefti’s “Li’l Darlin’”; Frank Foster’s “Shiny Stockings”; Vernon Duke’s “April in Paris”; Morgan Lewis’ “How High the Moon”; and Jeff Jarvis’ “Critical Mass.” Presser Recital Hall is in Cope Music Hall at Simpson Street and Union Avenue. The event is free and open to the public.
