Stradivari concert set for Saturday
THE VINDICATOR
YOUNGSTOWN — The first North American concert by the Berlin Philharmonic Stradivari Soloists will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday at Ford Family Recital Hall.
The idea to unite an ensemble dedicated to the sound-ideal of Antonio Stradivari is not a new one; such ensembles existed in the master instrument maker’s own time.
The Berlin Philharmonic Stradivari Soloists on many occasions has used 11 instruments of Stradivari, making it the largest collection in the world during touring periods.
In Saturday’s recital, the Soloists will perform Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nacht-musik,” the Grieg Holberg Suite, Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings” and Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for String Orchestra in C major.
Berlin Philharmonic Stradivari Soloists was founded in 1993 with the goal of uniting top players for a standard of performance worthy of the Stradivari violin.
The 12-member conductorless ensemble has a growing repertoire that encompasses all periods and styles, including many arrangements written by ensemble members. Each member is also in the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
Concert tickets are available online at youngstownsymphony.com. A ticket package that includes a pre-concert dinner/reception are available by calling the DeYor Performing Arts Center box office at (330) 744-0264.
