NHL ROUNDUP Saturday’s other games

Senators 3, Canadiens 1

OTTAWA — Daniel Alfredsson and Chris Neil scored 1:40 apart in the third period to rally the Ottawa Senators. Cristobal Huet, who stopped Alfredsson on a penalty shot in the second, was within 5:10 of his second shutout in two starts but the Senators captain tied it at 1. Neil gave Ottawa the lead when he beat Huet with a shot from the right circle with 3:30 left. Alfredsson added an empty-net goal for his 13th of the season — his fourth in three games — and the Senators improved to 14-2-0. Ottawa lost 4-1 to Washington on Thursday to end its team-record, eight-game winning streak.

Rangers 3, Maple Leafs 2, SO

TORONTO — Marcel Hossa scored the decisive goal in the shootout and Steve Valiquette made 32 saves as the New York Rangers beat Toronto in the annual Hall of Fame game. Valiquette spelled regular goalie Henrik Lundqvist, who had played every minute of New York’s previous 16 games this season. With his parents watching in the stands, Valiquette helped the Rangers win their first road game (1-5-1).

Islanders 2, Devils 1

UNIONDALE, N.Y. — Miroslav Satan scored his third straight winning goal and the New York Islanders denied New Jersey goalie Martin Brodeur his 500th NHL victory. Josef Vasicek also scored for the Islanders, who won their fourth in a row and finished a six-game homestand with five wins. Rick DiPietro turned aside 19 shots for his eighth win this season and 98th in the NHL. He made a huge stick save on Brian Gionta with 25 seconds left to preserve the win. Dainius Zubrus had the only goal for the Devils, 1-2-1 in their last four. Brodeur stopped 20 shots. Satan has all five of his goals, plus five of his six assists in the past seven games, recording at least one point in each game.

Hurricanes 5, Thrashers 3

ATLANTA — Rod Brind’Amour scored two goals and Southeast Division-leading Carolina beat defending champion Atlanta, giving Thrashers rookie goalie Ondrej Pavelec his first loss. Cam Ward stopped 32 shots for Carolina, which played its fifth of nine straight games against division opponents. Marian Hossa scored two goals for Atlanta, including one about 5 minutes into the third period that trimmed Carolina’s lead to 4-3. Eric Staal’s rebound shot with only 1:36 left ended Atlanta’s comeback hopes.

Bruins 2, Sabres 1

BOSTON — Tim Thomas made 45 saves and Chuck Kobasew scored the tiebreaker in the third period to help the Bruins snap a four-game losing streak. Marco Sturm scored the other goal for Boston, which has been held to two goals or fewer in eight of their last 10 games. Daniel Paille scored a short-handed goal for Buffalo and Ryan Miller made 20 saves.

Lightning 5, Capitals 2

WASHINGTON — Vaclav Prospal had a goal and two assists and Tampa Bay won its third straight. Martin St. Louis had a goal and an assist and Vincent Lecavailier added two assists for the Lightning, who won on the road for the second straight game after losing their first seven road contests.
