NEW CASTLE, Pa.— The musical “The Wizard of Oz” will open Friday at the New Castle Playhouse, 202 E. Long Ave. Michael Cavalier of Ellwood City, is the director.
The musical will run for 13 performances Friday, Saturday and Nov. 18; 23, 24, 25; 30, and Dec. 1-2, 7, 8, 9. Evening performances are at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. A special matinee will be Dec. 8, at 2 p.m.
The opening night will feature a complimentary wine and cheese party for all ticket holders beginning at 6:30 in the Annex Theater.
For tickets, call the box office at (724) 654-3437. Tickets are $14 for adults ($12 for senior citizens and students, $10 for children 12 and under). Group rates are also available for parties of 10 or more.
Stage Left Youths
present ‘Cinderella’
LISBON — Stage Left Youth Player will present “Cinderella,” a one-act musical, at 8 p.m. Friday; at 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday; and 2 p.m. Nov. 18; at the Outreach Center, 234 E. Lincoln Way.
Forty children will take part in the production, which was written by Kandace Cleland, with original music by Jodine Pilmer and lyrics by Cleland. Call (330) 424-5093 for tickets.
‘Miracle on Easy Street’
to benefit United Way
YOUNGSTOWN — Proceeds from the Dec. 13 performance of “Miracle on Easy Street” will benefit United Way charities.
The Easy Street Productions performance will be the first of five that will run through Dec. 16 at Powers Auditorium. With the support of corporate sponsors, United Way hopes to provide 500 underprivileged children and their families with the opportunity to see the show.
United Way Family Night at “Miracle on Easy Street” will also feature a pre-event reception with Santa Claus and his elves, Frosty the Snowman and the stars of the show.
Individual tickets as well as corporate sponsorship packages are available by calling the United Way office at (330) 746-8494. Tickets are $25 ($20 for seniors and students and $12 for children 12 and under).
Depression glass lecture
will conclude series
WARREN — The third and final lecture in the Sutliff Museum’s fall series will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the meeting room of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library.
Harry King, antique dealer and educator, will speak on “Victorian Echoes in the Twentieth Century: Depression Glass.” King will show examples of the glass, identify common patterns, and indicate values of some pieces. Opera singer to perform
at Mount Carmel church
YOUNGSTOWN — Francisco Casanova will sing operatic arias and Italian songs in a concert at 9 p.m. Dec. 7 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 342 Via Mount Carmel. Shenango Chorale’s
holiday performances
SHARON, Pa. — Christmas concerts in Sharon and New Wilmington, the annual performance of Handel’s “Messiah” and four performances of “An Olde English Feaste” by the Madrigal Singers highlight the Shenango Valley Chorale’s holiday season.
Edgar S. Groves is in his 13th year as director of the chorale, which was founded in 1972 and has more than 100 singers.
The chorale’s annual performance of Handel’s “Messiah” will be at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 18 at First Presbyterian Church, 600 E. State St., Sharon.
The Chorale’s Madrigal Singers will give four performances of “An Olde English Feaste” at 7 p.m. Nov. 29 through Dec. 2 at Tara, A Country Inn, in Clark, Pa. For reservations, call (724) 699-6948.
Two Christmas concerts are planned: 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at Wallace Chapel, Westminster College, New Wilmington; and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at First Presbyterian Church in Sharon.
Both concerts will include the Shenango Valley Chorale Chamber Orchestra and the Youngstown Fine Arts Brass. The Shenango Area Youth Chorus also will perform.
