New water tank for jail
LISBON — The Columbiana County commissioners had a special meeting Friday to buy an $18,000 hot water tank from the Omar McDowell Co. of Westlake for the county jail. The jail has two large tanks. One tank has been broken for some time, and the second recently began to leak. The new tank will replace the broken tank. Installation should begin Tuesday. Repairs are also being made to the leaking tank, said Jim Hoppel, chairman of the commissioners. Hoppel said it’s important to have enough water since the jail houses 180 prisoners. The tanks were part of the expansion of the jail about 10 years ago. The well water that supplies the jail is full of minerals that help corrode pipes and fixtures.
