YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County grand jury has indicted two people on homicide charges.

Tremaine A. McDonald, 28, of Eastern Avenue, Campbell, faces a murder charge with a firearm specification in the July 9 shooting death of Rodney Brown, 45, of Devon Avenue.

Brown was shot in a drive-by shooting at about 2:15 a.m. in the Speed Check parking lot at 1050 McGuffey Road.

Kenneth M. Miller, also known as Kenneth Daviduk, 32, of First Street, was indicted on charges of involuntary manslaughter, disrupting public services and breaking and entering.

The charges stem from an alleged Sept. 13 attempt to steal copper wire from an Ohio Edison substation on Oak Hill Avenue that resulted in the electrocution of his alleged accomplice, James O. Leach, 50, of East Auburndale Avenue, and a seven-minute power failure beginning at 3:36 a.m.

The involuntary manslaughter charge alleges that Leach died “as a proximate result” of Miller’s committing the breaking and entering offense.

Leach was released from county jail, where he had been held on a theft charge, 11 hours before he died instantly by being jolted with 23,000 volts.

Alberta McCauley, 73, of Oak Street, was indicted on charges of bribery and cocaine possession and trafficking with forfeiture specifications.
