SteelHounds paid expansion fee
YOUNGSTOWN — SteelHounds owner Herb Washington said Thursday that his third-year Central Hockey League team has paid its $1 million expansion fee to the league.
Washington responded to a story in Thursday’s Vindicator that said neither the team nor the CHL would confirm how much of the SteelHounds’ expansion fee remains to be paid.
Washington, who says the team has a financial dispute with the league, said his franchise has not been compensated for travel expenses.
Washington said the SteelHounds and CHL have a financial impasse that needs to be resolved.
“Money is tied up in the dispute,” Washington said.
The owner said his team owes the CHL money to cover league fees that have been assessed as well as fines his players earned for rambunctious play.
