Campbell mayor will take water treatment sale to the people

CAMPBELL — Mayor John Dill still believes leasing or selling the city’s water treatment plant and distribution system is the correct thing to do, but before he proposes it again he plans to build a grass-roots organization to take his case to the citizens.

Two efforts to sell the water system has resulted in successful referendum initiatives, in 2006 and this year, halting the enabling legislation passed by city council to sell or lease the facility.

Believing that people don’t fully understand the situation, Dill said letters will be sent to every household and water customer explaining why he thinks the plant should be sold.

The grass-roots committee will educate people on all aspects of the water plant, he said after Wednesday’s council meeting.
