2 men charged with murder

YOUNGSTOWN — Two arrests have been made in the Sunday evening shooting death of 19-year-old David Clinkscale of Parkcliff Avenue.

He was found inside the downstairs apartment at 2323 Ohio Ave. on the North Side around 6:30 p.m.

Capt. Kenneth Centorame, chief of detectives, said two men, Tora Barnette, 18, of Upland Avenue, and Derrick C. Veal, 18, of Toledo and formerly of Youngstown, were charged with murder Monday afternoon after being interviewed by Detective Sgts. Rick Spotleson and Ramon Cox.

Barnette, who turns 19 on Saturday, has an unrelated gun case pending at Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. Trial is set for Dec. 17.

Barnette and Veal were expected to be arraigned today in municipal court.

Centorame said detectives are also looking for a person of interest. “We suspect as many as three more people were there who we need to talk to,” he said.

He said the motive hasn’t yet been established.

Clinkscale was found in the dining room, shot in the back. Centorame said the victim was shot by more than one person.

A neighbor in the upstairs apartment heard multiple gunshots. Police found bullet impact marks on the walls, doors and ceiling.
