YOUNGSTOWN — A charge of having a weapon under disability filed against Louis K. Davis, 49, of Volney Road was bound over Friday from municipal court to a Mahoning County grand jury. Detectives said Davis likely shot Joeray L. Redmond, 27, of Hudson Avenue during a home invasion Oct. 24. Redmond was found dead in a yard near Davis’ with a handgun laying near the body.
History-to-Go lecture
YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s Young Leaders Advisory Board invites the public to the next History-to-Go lecture program called “County Seat: The History of the Mahoning County Courthouse” from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
The self-guided tour will include the grand lobby and several courtrooms and will feature historic photographs, legal and architectural history and a chance to see some of the brilliant artwork. This program is free. Allow about 45 minutes for the tour. Advance registration is not necessary; however, direct any questions to the Mahoning Valley Historical Society at (330) 743-2589.
Helping residents pay
NEW SPRINGFIELD —An informational meeting on funding available to residents to help pay for connections to the upcoming sanitary sewer system has been set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Petersburg Fire Station 22, 13855 Youngstown-Petersburg Road.
Representatives will be available from the offices of the Mahoning County Commissioners, Mahoning County Sanitary Engineer, Mahoning County Board of Health and United States Department of Agriculture. Those who cannot make the 5:30 meeting are welcome to attend a similar meeting at 3 p.m. the same day at the Ellsworth Township Hall, 11125 Akron-Canfield Road, Ellsworth.
Taking scrap tires
NORTH LIMA — Scrap tires will be accepted from Mahoning County residents from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Beaver Township Recycling Center, 601 W. South Range Road. Beaver Township residents may drop off two passenger tires free of charge and pay 50 cents for each additional tire. Non-Beaver Township residents will pay 50 cents for all tires. The limit is six passenger tires per vehicle. Truck tires will be accepted for $5 each up to a limit of six. The drive is sponsored by the township trustees and Mahoning County Green Team (recycling division).
Christmas wreath sale
MERCER, Pa. — Munnell Run Farm Foundation Inc. of Mercer is selling fresh, hand-tied, 24-inch Fraser fir Christmas wreaths. The money raised from the sale is earmarked to support Munnell Run Farm’s agriculture and ecology education programs.
The wreaths are $22 plain or $25 decorated with a choice of red burgundy or plaid bow and pine cones. Sturdy, 36-inch cemetery stands are also available for $2. Wreaths can be pre-wired to the stand by request. Orders will be accepted until Nov. 15. Wreaths can be picked up Nov. 27-28 at the Munnell Run Farm Education Building, 747 Greenville Road. Honoring adoptive families
WARREN — The Trumbull County Children Services Board and Trumbull County Probate Court will have an event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday to honor families that adopt. The event will include finalization hearings for several adoptions to be held in the probate court in the county courthouse. Before the hearings, several officials will speak on adoption. November is National Adoption Month. Afterward, balloons will be released that represent the number of children still awaiting their “forever family.” Trumbull County CSB has 23 children waiting to be adopted.
