YOUNGSTOWN MODEL RAILROAD ASSOCIATION A brief history
The model train group is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, with open houses this weekend and next at the former Four Mile Run Church on Four Mile Run Road. A quick look at the association:
Formed in April 1957 with eight people attending the first meeting at a Tippecanoe Road home.
Of the eight original members, two remain active.
Set up shop in December 1957 on Wilson Avenue, with the club‘s first layout being constructed shortly thereafter.
Held its first open house on Dec. 2 and 3, 1961.
In the mid-1960s, moved to the site of a former gym near Fifth and Rayen avenues.
Relocated to its present home in early 1978.
