Eagle award

Kenneth Earl Lee-Maher, 18, the son of Gina and Jim Maher of Mineral Ridge, has earned his Eagle Scout award, Boy Scouting’s highest honor.

His court-of-honor ceremony was at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon in North Jackson. His scoutmaster is Fred Piersol.

A member of Troop 85, Maher earned 27 merit badges. His Eagle Scout service project was to install a stone walkway at Seaborn Elementary Environmental Garden in Mineral Ridge, thus making the garden accessible to pupils year-round.

Kenneth has served as troop assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader and troop guide. He has completed all five years of the Camp Stigwandish honor camper program and is a Trailblazer.

Kenneth also is a brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow WapashuwiLodge.

He is a member of the Church of Christ in Mineral Ridge and is a senior at Mineral Ridge High School, where he is active in the marching, jazz, pep and concert bands, and the cross county, bowling and track teams. He also has participated in the school’s newspaper and yearbook.

He also volunteers at the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley, the St. Stephen’s Market Day, and the Army Navy Garrison No. 244 fundraisers that benefit hospitalized veterans. He also has participated in fund-raising walks for dyslexia, Relay For Life and Alzheimer’s disease.

Kenneth has been responsible for organizing the troop’s Toys for Tots drive at Mineral Ridge High School the last three years, and he was selected to attend the American Legion’s Buckeye Boy State. He has earned a presidential award for volunteerism.
