Construction begins
on apartment buildings
VIENNA — Universal Development of Liberty has begun to build the first of 26 four-unit and six-unit single-story apartment buildings on 25 acres just west of state Route 11 on Warren-Sharon Road.
The development is called Avalon Creek.
Melissa Hegwood, marketing manager for Universal, said the first of 142 apartments will be ready for occupancy in the spring. Universal has built similar developments in places such as Niles, Poland and New Castle, Pa., since the 1990s. Rent for the apartments will be around $900 per month. They are not government-subsidized.
Quaker Steak & Lube
has site in Cleveland
SHARON, Pa. — Quaker Steak & Lube, a Sharon-based restaurant chain, has opened a full-service restaurant and bar in the main concourse of Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. The Quicken Loans Arena Lube will occupy the space that was formerly Gordon’s Sports Bar. It features the same food, beverages and motor-sports themed decor as the other Lube locations. The restaurant will open 30 minutes before the arena’s doors open, and an event ticket is required for access to the restaurant.
McGee heads board
of Community Solutions
WARREN — Michael McGee, a partner with Harrington, Hoppe & Mitchell, has been elected chairman of the board of directors of Community Solutions Association. He has been a member of the board since 2006. Community Solutions, based in Warren, provides a wide range of counseling services and operates a crisis hot line and information referral service.
TBC Coffee Co.
open for business
POLAND — TBC Coffee Co. has opened at 6541 Clingan Road. The owners are Peter and Joyce Kohler of Poland. The store offers custom-roasted, whole-bean espresso drinks, as well as juices, snacks and locally made baked goods.
Open house set
at Lark Enterprises
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Lark Enterprises will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday and from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday. Tours of the production sites at 2665 Ellwood Road and 315 Greenridge Drive will be offered. Lark Enterprises is a nonprofit corporation that provides jobs for mentally and physically disabled people. Services include industrial wo vices, and shipping services.

complements aquarium
NILES — Captain McFinn has opened in the Eastwood Mall. It is an aquatic-themed store that is designed to complement the mall’s new aquarium. It carries toys, games and educational materials. It also has a party room that offers birthday parties. The mall is offering field trips to local schools and children’s organizations who are interested in touring the aquarium.
VA awards contract
in Mercer County
GROVE CITY, Pa. — The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded a $445,000 contract to Mercer County Rehab Supply of Grove City for medical equipment and supplies. The contract was awarded by VA National Acquisition Center, Hines, Ill.
