YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Historical Center will have its Children’s History Club from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at 151 W. Wood St. The program, which is for children ages 8 to 12, is titled “The French and Indian War.” Participants will make an American Indian artifact, play a few American Indian games and see artifacts representative of the time. A snack is provided. Advance registration is required by calling (330) 743-5934. The cost of the program is $10 for Ohio Historical Society members and $12 for all others.
Vets History Project
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Lawrence County veterans are invited to tell the stories of their U.S. military service as part of the Veterans History Project, an oral history project created by Congress in 2000. Veterans can go to American Legion Post 343, 134 N. Jefferson St., between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Thursday, where members of U.S. Rep. Jason Altmire’s staff and area high school students will record the audio and video interviews. Each interview will take about 30 minutes, and no appointment is needed. Railroad club’s event
SEBRING — The Sebring Model Railroad Club is having its annual open house from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 17 and 18. The club’s 8-foot mountain and the rest of its HO scale railroad is in the former Pennsylvania Railroad station on Pennsylvania Avenue, next to the Norfolk Southern Lines, formerly the Conrail tracks. There will be refreshments available. Admission is $2 per person. Money raised helps maintain the clubhouse and layout.
Environmental program
LEAVITTSBURG — The Regional Alliance for Community Health will have an environmental program from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Johnson Community Center, 800 Gilmer Road.
The alliance is made up of environmental groups from Lordstown, Lisbon, Girard, Hubbard and Warren Township.
Speaker will be Lois Gibbs, an activist from Love Canal, New York, who became an environmentalist because of a chemical waste dump in the community.

Help for fire department
COITSVILLE — The fire department will be contacting area homeowners as part of a fundraising drive aimed at buying new equipment.
Fire department officials will be contacting area home-owners in the coming weeks by phone to request a $20 donation. Department representatives will also travel door-to-door during the campaign, wearing badges and carrying identification.
Those who make donations will receive a complimentary certificate for an 8-by-10-inch color portrait, taken at the fire department.
Closed for culvert repair
MESOPOTAMIA — Parkman-Mesopotamia Road in Mesopotamia Township will be closed just north of Parks West Road for a culvert repair Wednesday through Friday. The recommended detour includes state Route 87 and Girdle Road.
