Trumbull 4-H families honor 3 volunteers

CORTLAND — Trumbull County 4-H has announced three annual volunteer awards chosen by 4-H families.

This year’s 4-H Alumni Award winner is Christen Clemson of Cortland. Clemson was a member in the Trumbull 4-H program and had been a club adviser for the past three years. She is active with the Happy Hams 4-H Club and the Trumbull County Jr. Livestock Sale.

Ruth McCullagh, formerly of Warren, has earned the Meritorious Service Award. This award is for someone who has given outstanding service to 4-H through short-term dedication or in a specific area of 4-H youth work. Her efforts included helping with the 4-H Endowment Program and the public speaking and demonstration contest.

Karen Mitchell of West Farmington is this year’s 4-H Distinguished Service Award winner. This is for someone who has shown superior dedication to 4-H and who also has extended tenure and service to 4-H beyond his/her local club. Mitchell spearheaded Trumbull County’s 4-H Endowment program and was instrumental in helping it reach the $100,000 goal this year. Mitchell is also involved in other areas of the 4-H program, including the 4-H camp, leadership program evaluation and 4-H advisory committee.
