Lordstown volleyball falters against St. Paul
TWINSBURG — The Lordstown High volleyball team won its first district title in school history last weekend.
Its first regional title will have to wait.
The Red Devils were no match for defending state champion Norwalk St. Paul, falling 25-19, 25-15, 25-18 in a Division IV regional semifinal Thursday at Twinsburgh High School.
Lordstown, winners of the Northeastern Athletic Conference, finished the season with a 23-3 record.
The Red Devils took a 14-5 lead in the first game before St. Paul rallied. The Flyers controlled the second game, but Lordstown made it interesting in the third, leading 13-3 before the Flyers came back.
The Flyers, who have advanced to the state meet the past five years, will face Central Christian in the regional final at 2 p.m. Saturday. Central defeated Ashtabula Sts. John & Paul in the second semifinal.
