Suspected cop shooter pleads insanity

YOUNGSTOWN — A Boardman man who is accused of shooting an Austintown police officer pleaded   innocent by reason of insanity in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Carlton Sims, 22, was in court for his arraignment today. Sims is accused of shooting Patrolman Joe Wojciak on May 8 as Wojciak sat in his cruiser in the parking lot of the Kmart on Mahoning Avenue around 7 a.m. doing paperwork.

Wojciak was saved from serious injury by his bulletproof vest. No additional court dates have yet been set for Sims.
