Teens plead innocent

YOUNGSTOWN — Two high school students pleaded innocent Tuesday to charges of murder in the drive-by shooting death of 17-year-old Maressia Patterson. Judge Elizabeth A. Kobly set bond at $750,000 for both Deon Glenn, 18, accused of being the shooter, and Robert Jackson Jr., 18, accused of being the driver.

Police do not think Patterson, 17, and Akeem Minor, 17, were the intended victims in the shooting, which took place early Saturday on Ford Avenue.

Officers found Patterson unresponsive after being struck in the back. She was leaving a Lora Avenue party with Minor when she was struck. Minor was shot in the leg and not seriously injured.

City Prosecutor Jay Macejko said the shooting is believed to have been motivated by an ongoing rivalry between some students of Rayen and Chaney high schools.

Glenn is charged with murder and felonious assault. Jackson is charged with conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with evidence.

Drug records released

AKRON — A judge has agreed to turn over the drug rehabilitation records of murder suspect Donna Moonda’s former lover. Judge David Dowd issued an order Tuesday giving the government the records of Damian Bradford. Bradford pleaded guilty last year in the shooting death of Dr. Gulam Moonda. Dr. Moonda, 69, of Mercer County, Pa., died May 13, 2005, after being shot in his car in an emergency pull-off lane of the Ohio Turnpike. Prosecutors contend Moonda’s widow and Bradford planned the killing after meeting in a drug rehabilitation program. Bradford has agreed to testify against Moonda in her upcoming federal trial. The judge did deny the government access to Donna Moonda’s drug treatment records. Judge Dowd noted that she would not agree to release the records.
