Car fishing in Sharon

SHARON, Pa. - Sharon police and firefighters had to fish a car out of the Shenango River early this morning.

Police Chief Mike Menster said they got a call around midnight that a car had crashed over a bridge and into the Shenango River. They found the 1995 Buick sedan partially submerged near the Budd Street bridge, but determined there had been no crash.

Menster said they later learned the car had been stolen from the 1100 block of Fruit Avenue in Farrell, driven to a canoe launch and then pushed into the water. A window was smashed and the stearing column was damaged, he said. Preston Towing and the fire department pulled the car from the water. No one was inside, he said.
