Police: Woman was targeted

BOARDMAN — Police say a woman was targeted in a murder attempt that happened at her home in the 100 block of Maple Drive.

A man known to the woman left a knife cut on her left arm, and stab wounds on her chest and stomach.

He then tried to kill himself, a police report says. He was found in the home’s basement with two knives, one in a pool of blood, early Friday.

When police questioned him, he said he wanted to kill himself because he has an illness. The woman, however, would not let him do it — and a struggle for the knife ensued, the report says.

That struggle ended with both falling down the basement stairs. The woman believes she blacked out after the fall.

The man had a self-inflicted cut on the left wrist, the report says.

Both people were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center.
