Prostitution arrests

Prostitution arrests

YOUNGSTOWN — Three women accused of soliciting sex were arrested by undercover vice officers working an afternoon prostitution detail. One of the three charged with soliciting, Lisa Page, 41, of Zents Street, failed to appear for arraignment Thursday in municipal court and a warrant was issued. Connie Thomas, 51, of West Chalmers Avenue and Diana Cameron, 40, who lists a Liberty motel as her residence, were released on their own recognizance. They will be back in court June 19 for trial. Vice officers out Wednesday afternoon said Page offered a sex act for $20 on Covington Street at Arlington Avenue; Cameron wanted $15 on Lincoln Avenue at Covington Street; and Thomas quoted a price of $20 at Williams and Woodland avenues.

Fraudulent petitions

WARREN — A third person has been sentenced for turning in fraudulent petitions for Congressional candidate Randy Walter in 2006.

Georgene Mummey of Poland was ordered to pay a $250 fine and court costs Thursday by Judge John M. Stuard of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court. She had earlier pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge in connection with the petitions.

Kelly Pallante, elections board director, has said that 20 signatures on petitions filed by Mummey didn’t match the signatures of those on record at the Trumbull and Mahoning counties elections boards.

Mummey and three others were referred to the prosecutor’s office for turning in the petitions.

Cigarette robbery

BOARDMAN — A Trenholm Road man’s bad habit landed him in lock-up.

Marc S. Hamilton, 31, was charged with robbery after another man accused him of demanding a cigarette at knifepoint.

The victim, 27, told police he was standing with some friends Wednesday night, smoking outside of a business in the 620-block of Boardman-Canfield Road.

The victim said that Hamilton walked up and asked for a cigarette and when the victim refused, Hamilton pulled out a knife, held it to the man’s ribs and demanded a cigarette.

The man told police that he backed away and that Hamilton left the area when an employee of the business emerged from the building. Police issued a warrant and arrested Hamilton Thursday morning.

$20,000 steel theft

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — About $20,000 worth of stainless steel equipment was taken from a former meat packing plant.

Police said owners of the former Castle Brand building on Hobart Street and Mahoning Avenue discovered Wednesday that stainless steel tables, conveyors and parts were missing. They had last seen the items May 10.

Police said neighbors reported a red Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck was seen near the building over the last few days. Police said the cost to replace the items would be about $20,000. Those same items taken to a scrap yard would yield about $5,000, they said.

The other $173,000 would be divided among six other projects. Representatives will give citizens an overview of the projects.
