County Respect Day

WARREN — The Tri-County Family Violence Prevention Coalition will hold the second annual Trumbull County Respect Day at noon today in the Trumbull County commissioners meeting room, on fifth floor of the County Administration Building, 160 High St. N.W.

The event, open to the public, promotes respect as an antidote to family violence, including child abuse, intimate-partner abuse and elder abuse.

Truck detour on Route 45

WELLSVILLE — The Ohio Department of Transportation is posting a detour for truck traffic effective today on state Route 45 just outside of Wellsville. The road has been reduced to one lane since late April due to a landslide. Truck traffic will be detoured north on Route 7 to U.S. Route 30, then west on U.S. 30 back to Route 45 and reverse.

One lane of traffic will continue on state Route 45 with temporary traffic signals. Officials were unsure how long repairs would take.

New policeman sworn in

WARREN — Paul White, 24, of Warren, was sworn in as the city’s newest police officer Tuesday at city hall by Service Safety Director William Franklin. This brings the department’s strength to 83, two short of the authorized strength.

White is a 2001 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School and served three tours of duty in Afghanistan and one tour in Iraq. He graduated December from the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy at Youngstown State University. He is married to the former Kathryn Nuzzi.

School hosts NASA exhibit

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The public is invited to tour a traveling NASA exhibit that has stopped at the George Washington Intermediate School. Pupils toured the 53-foot trailer of “Vision for Space Exploration Experience” on Tuesday. The public will have access to it from 5 to 7 tonight at the school, located at 101 E. Euclid Ave. Admission is free. Visitors will embark on a simulated journey to the farthest reaches of the solar system. From interactive holographic control panels to 3-D imagery, visitors will discover what it is like to live and work on the surfaces of the moon and Mars and to travel to Saturn’s moon, Titan.

Spray day rescheduled

NILES — Mosquito spraying scheduled for this evening has been rescheduled for June 27 because it’s too early in the season to spray effectively, according to the city health department. The backup day for spraying is June 28.
