Symphony Chorus offers concert Saturday evening


YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Symphony Chorus, under the direction of Don Megahan, will present a spring choral concert, “Rejoice!,” at 7 p.m. Saturday at St. John Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave. Richard Konzen will accompany. The concert is in memory of chorus member Jill Fromm.

Selections include several opera choruses: Verdi’s “Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves” and “Anvil Chorus”; “Neighbors Chorus” by Offenbach; and Wagner’s “Bridal Chorus.” Solo will be sung by Stephanie Champion, soprano; Elizabeth Crowll, soprano; Rosemary Minghetti, soprano and Jerry Stephens, bass.

Beethoven’s “Hallelujah” from “Mount of Olives” will be performed under the direction of Linda Rein, assistant conductor. The chorus will also perform Benjamin Britten’s “Rejoice in the Lamb.” Soloists for the Britten piece are Carole Conatser, soprano; Leigh Altier, alto; and Margaret Franklin, tenor. Additionally, Mozart’s ”Allelujah” will be presented. A festive reception will follow the concert.
