BASEBALL
Lakeview 13, LaBrae 4
CORTLAND -- Dave DeJacimo had a three-run home run, double and single for four RBIs to lead the Bulldogs, who captured the Trumbull Athletic Conference championship outright with an 11-2 record. The homer was DeJacimo's fifth of the season. He has 44 RBIs. Also for Lakeview (16-10), Jon Mullins had two hits and two RBIs, while Dave Bertleff and Jeff Musick had two hits and an RBI apiece. Eric Hart had two hits and two RBIs for LaBrae.
Hubbard 8, Champion 7
HUBBARD -- With two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and the TAC game tied, Bo Slemons singled home the winning run from third base for the Eagles (15-8, 9-4). Slemons finished with four hits including two doubles. Matt Shelton, Steve Zubyk and Joe Mirando also doubled in a 14-hit Hubbard attack. Champion (16-9, 9-5) scored six times in the second inning.
Girard 11, Brookfield 4
GIRARD -- Senior R.J. Trimbur had three singles and junior Matt Houser knocked in two runs for Girard (16-6, 9-4 TAC) at Tod Park. Junior Eric Archer (3-1) struck out five during a five-hitter over 61/3 innings before junior Kris Brown pitched 2/3 innings during which time he induced a double play to end the game. Brookfield's Pat Mulligan had a home run and double and pitched well despite his defense allowing seven errors. Ron Hawn had two RBIs for the Warriors.
Mathews 10, Py Valley 9
VIENNA -- John Scudier had three hits including a double and a two-run home run as Mathews outlasted Py Valley. Adam Collier pitched six innings to get the win and also had two hits, while Kyle Davis also homered for the Mustangs, who scored five times in the sixth inning for the win.
Southeast 10, Crestwood 1
RAVENNA -- Ozzie Thomas scattered five hits and Southeast scored all its runs in the first three innings against Crestwood. Taylor Simyak and Richard Hedrick had two hits each for the Pirates.
SOFTBALL
Boardman 13, Canton GlenOak 0
BOARDMAN -- Kelsey Ford had a single and two home runs, including a grand slam for Boardman (11-13, 4-6 Federal League). Ford's two-run blast came in the first inning, but her grand slam powered a 10-run third inning. Ford finished with six RBIs and scored twice. She also pitched a four-hitter. Also for the Spartans, Jaclyn Cunningham had two doubles and an RBI, Lucy Padgitt had a pair of singles and an RBI and Megan Ramsey doubled and knocked in two runs. GlenOak is 3-19, 0-12.
Lake 4, Fitch 0
AUSTINTOWN -- Fitch was held to just two singles as Lake blanked the Falcons in a Federal League contest. Kate Ferree and Danielle Crum had the only hits for the Falcons, while losing pitcher Kara Roche allowed just three hits and struck out eight for the Falcons.
Southeast 10, Crestwood 4
RAVENNA -- Jen Gahagan had a triple and single as her bat accounted for five RBIs for Southeast, whose three-run fourth inning pushed the Pirates over the top en route to victory. Meagan Wain also tripled for the Pirates (19-8), whose pitcher, Shannon Hamilton (13-4), arrived in the third inning to get the win. Triples were also registered by Crestwood's Samantha Lough, Emily Schrecengost and Chelsea Sapp.
