MLB ROUNDUP
Tuesday's other games
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Tigers 7, Red Sox 2
BOSTON -- Justin Verlander gave up six hits over 72/3 innings, and Brandon Inge and Magglio Ordonez homered to cool off Tim Wakefield. Verlander (4-1) allowed two runs and struck out seven before leaving the game when Kevin Youkilis hit a solo home run in the eighth. The reigning AL Rookie of the Year, Verlander has allowed four earned runs in four road starts this season.
Blue Jays 2, Orioles 1
TORONTO -- Jesse Litsch pitched into the ninth inning in his major league debut and Troy Glaus singled in the go-ahead run in the sixth. Litsch walked Miguel Tejada with two outs in the ninth and Jeremy Accardo relieved. Accardo allowed a single to Ramon Hernandez before retiring Aubrey Huff on a groundout to second to earn his third save. Litsch became the first Blue Jay to win his debut as a starter since left-hander Gustavo Chacin beat the Yankees on Sept. 20, 2004, at Yankee Stadium.
Devil Rays 4, Rangers 3, 10 innings
KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Devil Rays got everything they needed for a successful debut at Disney World. Brendan Harris' bases-loaded single in the 10th inning, his fourth hit of the game, drove in the winning run off Scott Feldman (1-2), who was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma earlier in the day. Brian Stokes (2-5) pitched the 10th for the Devil Rays, who then loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the inning on two walks and Delmon Young's single. Hank Blalock homered for the third straight game for the Rangers. Despite slow advance ticket sales, most of the seats in the minor league park at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex were filled. Attendance was announced as 8,443, a little more than 1,000 below capacity and slightly better than the 8,241 the Devil Rays and Rangers averaged for six dates at Tropicana Field last season.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Astros 6, Giants 5, 10 innings
HOUSTON -- Carlos Lee hit a solo home run, his second of the game, in the 10th inning off Jonathan Sanchez. The Giants rallied from a 3-0 deficit to take a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the eighth but Hunter Pence tied it with a two-run drive off Armando Benitez. Lee then won it with his ninth homer of the season. Lee went 4-for-4, scored four runs and finished with two RBIs and Pence was 3-for-3 with three RBIs for Houston. Barry Bonds went 0-for-2 with two walks for the Giants and stayed stuck on 745 career homers.
Cubs 10, Mets 1
NEW YORK -- Aramis Ramirez hit a grand slam and Carlos Zambrano pitched eight innings for Chicago. Cliff Floyd had three hits and an RBI in his first start at Shea Stadium since spending the previous four seasons with the Mets, and Chicago handed John Maine (5-1) his first loss of the year.
Phillies 4, Brewers 3
PHILADELPHIA -- Carlos Ruiz hit a solo homer with two outs in the ninth to lift the Phillies. Brett Myers allowed Johnny Estrada's tying solo homer in the ninth for his first blown save, but Ruiz connected off Derrick Turnbow (1-2) for his first career game-winning homer. Estrada led off the ninth with his fifth homer.
Braves 6, Nationals 2
WASHINGTON -- Edgar Renteria hit two home runs, Tim Hudson allowed three hits over seven innings, and the Braves ended the Nationals' four-game winning streak. Renteria went 3-for-5, homering in the first and seventh innings as the Braves snapped a two-game losing streak. Atlanta has won six of its last eight.
Diamondbacks 3, Rockies 0
DENVER -- Randy Johnson allowed one hit over six innings and outdueled Jason Hirsh on a cold, overcast night. For the second straight start, Johnson (1-2) looked like the Big Unit who won five Cy Young awards. Johnson, who underwent back surgery last October, struck out nine and walked none in winning for the first time since his return to Arizona after two frustrating seasons with the New York Yankees. Johnson retired the first nine batters he faced before Willy Taveras bunted his way aboard leading off the fourth. Hirsh (2-4) allowed three earned runs and seven hits in eight innings, walking none and striking out four.
