Gunman robs Family Dollar on South Avenue

BOARDMAN — A man who said he had a gun walked away with more than $150, car wax and candy from a South Avenue discount store.

Employees of Family Dollar told police that the man came into the store about 12:30 p.m. Monday, selected the car wax and candy and approached the register.

He told an employee to give him the money in the register, saying he had a gun. The employee complied, and the man left the store, getting into a vehicle that traveled north of South Avenue.

The car’s license plate revealed that it had been reported stolen out of Youngstown. Police later found the car in the parking lot of an East Midlothian Boulevard apartment complex.
