Save us from those intent on saving us from ourselves
Save us from those intenton saving us from ourselves

I would like to take a moment to thank Ohio lawmakers for trying to push through a law that will severely regulate strip clubs and adult book stores. A measure, in fact, that has been spearheaded by a good and upstanding Christian church in Mason, Ohio, that, incidentally, also spearheaded the banning of same sex marriage in this state.
Hats off to you, Ohio Legislature, for removing yet another brick from the archaic notion that adult citizens in this state can and should think for themselves. And because I trust our elected officials so much, I will believe their argument and won't ask them to release data and statistics that would prove that crime runs rampant in and around these dens of iniquity. Nope, I'm just gonna take their word for it, pull the wool over my own eyes and let them whisper sweet nothings in my ear, which is probably just that -- nothing.
And hats off to members of this little church for asserting their will and making us see that if they are of the opinion that something is morally base, then it probably is and should be stricken from our less than idealistic society ... forever.
And hats off to the good and upright people (or should I say sheeple) of this fine state for allowing our representatives in Columbus to back door yet another piece of legislation that will chip away at the antiquated notion that we honestly have a right to choose and that we need less government baby-sitting.
I would also like to take one more moment of your time to recommend that the legislature consider banning these items and activities because they are inherently unsafe to the health, welfare, aesthetics and moral fiber of this state.
1.People who use walkers to get around. They are unseemly to look at and are great targets for criminals looking for easy prey.
2.Most crime happens at night, so ban night and/or darkness. And anyone found in possession of night or darkness be punished to the fullest and extent of the law. (I recommend unlimited time in old pilgrim type stocks, in Mason.)
3.And finally, the banning of all writing implements to prevent unhinged and fed up citizens from writing nasty and sarcastic letters to newspaper editors questioning our leaders' superior wisdom and judgment. Or worse yet, directly to lawmakers saying, "back off, or we won't vote for you again."
I do hope lawmakers take my suggestions as seriously as they do that church in Mason. I am a citizen too.

Let's gamble on the lake
EDITOR:
How wonderful it would be to have a casino at Mosquito Lake. Worthless property around Mosquito Lake would become a cash crop. It would bring in a much-needed sewage system. A mecca for the illegal immigrants so that they could work in the service industry. Roads would be improved. Every industry would profit. Windfalls received from various companies (GM, Delphi, etc.) could be invested. Spend your money in Ohio instead of Pennsylvania or West Virginia.
Warren could annex the Mosquito Lake area and realize city tax to make up for the loss from GM, Delphi and the other companies that have moved out of the area. Maybe our real estate taxes would go down once money comes in from a different source. Namely gambling. Look at all the jobs it would create.
We could even consolidate the schools and have gambling fund it.
We could have a Presque Isle in our own backyard. You wouldn't have to leave town. Seniors could spend their money in Ohio. Think about it.
