AUCTIONS
More than 900 nursery stock plants will be sold at a charity auction to be sponsored by the Hubbard Optimists on Saturday at Kilar Bros. Motor Sports, 2616 N. Main St. S.E., Hubbard. The plants will be supplied by Ohio growers and will be displayed under a big tent for the auction that will begin at 11 a.m.
BOOK SALES
K-9's for Compassion will hold a book sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman-Canfield Road, Boardman. The nonprofit group takes therapy animals to two hospitals and 12 nursing homes in the area and to a reading program at Hubbard Public Library.
CARD/BINGO PARTIES
Ladies Altar Society of St. Mark Orthodox Church, 3460 Logan Way, will hold a card party at 6 p.m. May 17. The evening will feature a Chinese auction, door prizes, a winner's prize at each table, luncheon and beverage. Ethnic pastries will be available for purchase. Tickets are 5 at the door or by calling (330) 755-6538 or (330) 270-9820. Ron Zenko and Elaine Ritter, co-chairmen, will be assisted by the women of the parish.
SALES
Alliance Community Hospital Auxiliary will sponsor an "All That Sparkles" jewelry sale from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday in the 1-A conference room at the hospital. Gemstones will be available for 50 to 70 percent off original sale prices. There will be a large selection of rings, pins, bracelets and miscellaneous jewelry items. St. James Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave., Boardman, will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for half-price day on Friday. Available will be clothing, household items, small appliances and books. Lunch will be served.
The youth group at Pleasant Grove United Presbyterian Church, 3919 Southern Blvd., Youngstown, will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the church. Hot dogs will be available for 1.
Simon Road Church of God, 4750 Simon Road, Boardman, will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.
SPECIAL EVENTS
A cruise in and antique appraisal will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. May 19 at McCandless Ford, 8416 Sharon-Mercer Road, Mercer, Pa., as a benefit for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life to be held at 9 a.m. June 16 and 17 at Mercer High School. Three items will be appraised by a certified appraiser, Dorrin K. Mace, of Pine Knoll Clock Repair. The rain date is June 2.
