Hubbard rallies to top Fitch, 10-9



Joe Sekula hit a grand slam as Warren Harding beat Warren JFK 13-3.
AUSTINTOWN -- The Hubbard High baseball team scored twice in Friday's seventh inning to defeat Fitch, 10-9.
The Falcons, who scored once in the bottom of the seventh inning, had 14 hits, compared to 10 for Hubbard.
With the score tied 8-8, Hubbard's John Madeline walked and Marc Kanetsky hit a double to put runners at second and third for the Eagles. Madeline scored on a wild pitch and with two out, Kanetsky scored on a single by Matt Shelton.
Frank Rosile, Corey Hitt and Bo Slemons each had two hits for the Eagles.
Joe Koch hit four singles, drove in three runs and scored twice for Fitch.
Springfield 7, Lowellville 1
LOWELLVILLE -- Trailing 2-1, the Tigers (5-0) scored two runs in the fifth inning and four in the sixth.
Todd Kibby scattered seven hits with eight strikeouts to pick up the win. Kibby and Bobby Rogers each doubled.
McDonald 8, South Range 3
McDONALD -- David Dugan, Paul Logar and Nick Gatta each doubled for the Blue Devils (2-2).
South Range (1-2) held a 2-0 lead before yielding seven runs in the third.
Western Reserve 9, Brookfield 5
BERLIN CENTER -- With the score tied 5-5, the Blue Devils scored five runs in the sixth inning to improve to 3-0.
Jarod Barker hit a home run for the Blue Devils, while Brandon Moherman, Dave Drevna and Dave Snowden each had two hits.
Drevna picked up the win in relief while Barker earned a save.
United 9, Salem 2
HANOVERTON -- The Golden Eagles broke open a close game with a five-run surge in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Brandon Kekel (2-0) scattered six hits to pick up the win.
Justin Albright and Jake Snyder doubled for the Golden Eagles.
East Palestine 16, Southern 0
EAST PALESTINE -- East Palestine (3-0) scored six runs in the second inning and six more in the third as it cruised to the five inning win over the Indians (0-3).
Nick Baiamonte hit three singles, stole three bases and drove in four runs for the Bulldogs, Tommy Powers hit a double and single and drove in two runs. Wes Best hit a pair of singles and drove in two runs.
Warren Harding 13, Warren JFK 3
WARREN -- The Raiders scored three runs in the third inning, four in the fourth and iced the contest with five more in the sixth.
Andy Dobson hit a home run and double to pace the Raiders (3-1). Joe Sekula hit a grand slam home run in the fourth inning.
Elliott Killen and Brian Guarnieri each hit two singles for the Eagles (2-1-1).
Beaver Local 9, Lisbon 7
LISBON -- The Beavers snapped a 7-7 tie by scoring two runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Nick Marshall and Dustin Sprova doubled for the Beavers. Lucas Rambo doubled for the Blue Devils.
Howland 9, Girard 2
HOWLAND -- The Tigers (3-1) scored all the runs they needed -- seven -- in the first three innings.
Andy Zigmont (1-0) allowed only five hits and struck out seven to pick up the win. Zack Byler hit four singles and drove in three runs.
Niles 5, Mathews 3
NILES -- The Red Dragons built a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning and the Mustangs couldn't make up the difference.
Bob McDermott scattered five hits to pick up the win and Josh Rosenberger doubled.
John Scudier paced the Mustangs with a home run.
West Branch 7, Northwest 1
CANAL FULTON -- The Warriors (3-0, 2-0 Northeastern Buckeye Conference) jumped out to a 4-0 lead against Northwest (0-3, 0-2) in the first inning.
Willy Graham scattered four hits and struck out seven to pick up the win.
Trent Woods hit two doubles and drove in five runs for the Warriors. Evan Campbell hit three singles.
