ON THE SIDE. . .
This and that from the world of Valley politics.
POLITICAL CLUB OFFICERS: The Democrats of the 17th and 6th Districts re-elected Andy Hamady of Poland as its president; John Kish of Youngstown, first vice president and Mark Belinky of Boardman, secretary-treasurer. Socrates Kolitsos of Youngstown is the new second vice president.
Sales tax endorsement: The club endorsed the county's proposed continuing 0.5-percent sales tax. With Hamady heavily involved with the pro-tax committee, that comes as no surprise.
Union endorsement: AFSCME Ohio Council 8's Political Action Committee for Mahoning and Columbiana Counties endorsed candidates in five of the seven Youngstown City Council races. Of the five endorsed candidates, two are unopposed in the Democratic primary. Those in contested primaries receiving the PAC's endorsement are: DeMaine Kitchen in the 2nd Ward; Paul Drennen, 5th, and Mark Memmer, the incumbent in the 7th.
