Ridzon paces Rebels' 3-2 win over Raiders
NEW WATERFORD -- Tim Ridzon singled home Matt Petrosky in the bottom of the seventh inning Wednesday to give the Crestview High baseball team a 4-3 victory over South Range.
South Range had tied the contest in the top of the seventh inning.
Ridzon also picked up the victory in relief of starter Cory Hill in the seventh inning.
Poland 3, Ursuline 2
STRUTHERS -- Logan Wigley allowed just four hits with four strikeouts as Poland slipped past Ursuline.
Mark Carlozzi had a triple, two RBIs and scored a run, while Kevin Koval was two-for-three with a run scored.
Ursuline was led by Ed Rohan with two singles and Ron Yarab with a double.
Campbell 7, Chaney 2
CAMPBELL -- Sophomore Kyle Firm and junior Nicco Magnolia combined for a two-hitter for the Red Devils (1-1).
Firm pitched the first two innings and Magnolia finished in his second outing of the season. Each pitcher allowed one hit.
Freshman Raul Pizzaro went 2-for-4 with a double and scored three runs while junior Danny Sacui knocked in three runs for Campbell.
Chaney is 0-2.
Boardman 9, Hubbard 7
BOARDMAN -- Designated hitter Dom Sylvestri Jr. had a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to put Boardman (1-1) in the lead for good. Sylvestri finished 3-for-4.
When Hubbard came to bat in the top of the seventh, the first batter reached on an error. But sophomore relief pitcher Kevin McCulloh struck out the next three batters to end the game.
McCulloh fanned six in 2 2/3 innings. Starter Cameron Anderson pitched 4 1/3.
Bo Slemons doubled in the fifth for Hubbard.
Niles 9, Lakeview 2
CORTLAND -- Niles improved to 2-0 on the season behind a 12-hit attack and the pitching of Mike Kelly.
Kelly allowed just four hits, while striking out six and also had two hits including a double.
Stuart Mientkiewicz led the Dragons with three hits while Evan Bollenger, Anthony Roberts and Scott Paden all added a pair of hits for the winners.
Springfield 10, Liberty 7
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- John Mrosko's second-inning grand slam helped the Tigers (3-0) overcome a 5-0 deficit.
Mrosko drove in five runs with two hits. Travis Richey's three hits included a double. Dylon DeJane had two hits while Todd Kibby doubled.
Freshman Jimmy Behnke struck out seven batters to earn the victory.
For Liberty (0-1), Ryan Karson's three hits included a double and Justin Barker's two hits included a triple.
Mathews 10, Mineral Ridge 0
VIENNA -- Mike Price scattered six hits and had good defensive play behind him as Mathews rolled past Mineral Ridge in a five-inning contest.
The Mustangs turned three double plays in the contest, while Kyle Davis led the offense with two hits, including a double and three RBIs.
Phil Ciprian, Ken Cunningham and John Scudier all added two hits.
Lowellville 5, Southern 2
STRUTHERS -- Ryan Gruver and John Opinearne doubled for the Rockets (2-0, 2-0 Inter Tri-County league Tier Two).
John Wilaj drove in two runs with a first-inning single.
Warren JFK 6, Girard 2
WARREN -- Starting pitcher Corey Diles, a junior, gave up six hits over six innings before giving way to senior Scott Difford for the final inning.
Diles had five strikeouts and allowed four walks.
Josh Swipas, a senior, had a single and double, while junior Brian Guarnieri had three RBIs for JFK.
East Palestine 12, Lisbon 1
EAST PALESTINE -- Wes Best had three hits and drove in four runs to lead East Palestine past Lisbon in a six-inning game.
Tommy Powers and Scott Boggs had two hits each for the Bulldogs (2-0).
Lisbon was limited to just three hits.
Southeast 12, Streetsboro 10
RAVENNA -- Southeast scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to slip past Streetsboro.
Greg Lemley led the winners with two hits, one a double and two RBIs, while Andy Hartman added a double.
