Schools for the deaf and blind

LIBERTY — The superintendent of the Ohio School for the Deaf will be at the Holiday Inn MetroPlex at 7 p.m. Saturday to discuss plans to combine the Ohio School for the Deaf and the Ohio State School for the Blind onto a single campus in Columbus.

The proposal has generated some controversy, primarily from the Ohio School for the Deaf Alumni Association which opposes the idea.

The alumni group has launched a petition-signing drive and hired an attorney to help it fight the single-campus concept.

Dr. Ed Corbett Jr. is holding a series of nine community meetings around the state to meet with school alumni, parents of students and others involved in serving the state's blind population to inform them of the development plans.
