Boardman high jazz festival will be April 3

BOARDMAN — The seventh annual Boardman High School Jazz Fest will be at 7 p.m. April 3 at the Boardman Performing Arts Center.

This year’s event will include the premiere performance of BHS Jazz Ensemble 3, a group formed this year because of the overwhelming interest in the school’s jazz program. Thomas M. Ruggieri, director of bands, explained that the schools two big band ensemble classes filled up quickly, and the number of students left over who still wanted to audition was enough to warrant the creation of a third band.

Jazz Ensemble 2 will provide a unique blend of jazz and blues, including songs with vocals. The guest band will be an all-star alumni ensemble that includes past BHS graduates and others related to the jazz program.

The headliner will be BHS Jazz Ensemble 1.

Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for students and will be available at the door. Senior citizens and children are free.
