MVCA's Al Beach Classic to be played Wednesday



The girls game begins at 6 p.m. with the boys game following at 8.
BOARDMAN -- The Al Beach Classic basketball all-star games will be contested Wednesday at Boardman High School.
The event is put on by the Mahoning Valley Coaches Association and will showcase the top high school senior boys and girls basketball players in the area.
The teams will represent Mahoning and Columbiana counties playing against Trumbull County athletes. The girls game begins at 6 p.m., followed by the boys at about 8 p.m.
A highlight of the affair will be 3-point shooting contests at the intermissions and a slam dunk contest for the boys.
Girls
On the red team in the girls game will be two Boardman High students who will be playing on their home court -- Makala Gasparek and Stacie Wahlman. They will be joined by two players from Salem High -- Zahra Scullion and Leah Perry -- along with Elyse Mongillo (Crestview), Jackie Glista (Canfield), Alex Woytek (Mooney), Kristen Pallozzi (Lowellville), Liz Valerio (Struthers), Tieara Jones (Rayen) and Cassi Snoddy (West Branch).
Coaching the red team will be John Grandy (Struthers) and Jack Bermann (Mooney).
In the girls game, the white team will feature players from Trumbull County, including a pair from Howland High -- Melissa Airhart and Ellie Shields.
Also on that team will be Michele Dykes (Liberty), Emily Montgomery (Newton Falls), Sarah King (Mathews), Ashley Fiest (Bristol), Jamie Rumple (Maplewood), Elizabeth Ghindia (Champion), Alynn Martin (Lakeview) and Sophie Paddock (Hubbard).
John Hritz (Liberty) and Rob Hilbun (McDonald) will coach the white players.
Boys
There are 14 boys scheduled to play with the Red squad including a pair from McDonald -- Andy Timko and Bradley Hinton. Also on that team are Billy Hogue (Brookfield), Dustin Opalka (Lakeview), Eric Maraczi (Bristol), Mike Hillman (Maplewood), Mychal Doblanski (Liberty), Frank Rosile (Hubbard), Katrell Jones (Champion), Matt Dillon (Newton Falls), Justin Allen (Niles), J.J. Townsend (Warren JFK), Keelyn Franklin (Warren Harding) and Mike Ryan (LaBrae).
Coaching the team will be Roy Sembach (Newton Falls) and Jeff Rasile (McDonald).
The white team will be coached by Jared Cardillo (Boardman) and Steve Miller (Western Reserve). They will call on Mario Nero (Lowellville), Anthony Amabile (Crestview), Jesse James (Sebring), Matt Kukura (Struthers), John Porterfield (Western Reserve), T.J. Hosa (Boardman), Sean Baker (Canfield), Joe Carbon (Canfield), D'Aundray Brown (Ursuline), William Johnson (Wilson), Kyle Rockwell (West Branch), Dan Hanolt (East Palestine), Jermaine Richardson (Campbell) and Lou Coppola (Poland).
