PAC awards
*WEXFORD, Pa. -- Sam Mann, a senior pitcher for the Washington & amp; Jefferson College baseball team from Howland High, was named Presidents' Athletic Conference pitcher of the week.
In Mann's first outing of the season March 18, he pitched five innings of no-hit ball to gain the mound decision in the Presidents' 12-4 win over Allegheny in the opening game of a doubleheader.
He struck out five and walked only one batter while registering the 19th win of his W & amp;J career.
*NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Presidents' Athletic Conference named Westminster senior Kelly Spisak as the women's golfer of the week.
Spisak tied for 23rd place at the Mount Union College Spring Invitational, shooting a round total of 94, including a 46 on the back nine.
*GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Thiel freshman Stephanie Smith was named PAC softball hitter of the week.
Smith keyed a Thiel sweep of Franciscan University Sunday by batting .889 (8-for-9) with five runs scored and six RBIs. She is batting .476 with 11 RBIs and nine runs scored for the Tomcats this season.
Slippery Rocktrack honors
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University standouts Nate Hardic and Jeff Weiss were named Monday as Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference outdoor track and field athletes of the week.
Hardic, a freshman earned the field athlete of the week honor by winning the javelin throw with a toss of 180 feet, 8 inches last Saturday in the Early Bird Invitational hosted by California (Pa.).
Weiss, a sophomore, garnered the track athlete of the week honor by winning the 10,000-meter event in the Fred Hardy Invitational hosted by the University of Richmond (Va.) in 29 minutes, 56.30 seconds.
Salinas wins title
CLEVELAND -- Alejandro "Po Po" Salinas, 12, of Youngstown won the 75-pound weight-class championship in the state Junior Olympic boxing tournament Friday.
Salinas, who is trained by Jack Loew at the Southside Boxing Club in Youngstown, beat Gregory Norman of Akron in the finals at the Salvation Army Boxing Academy.
Salinas advanced to the regional Junior Olympic tournament Memorial Day weekend.
He also recently placed second in the nation at the National Silver Gloves in Kansas City. Mo.
Mooney's Brunosets state marks
AUSTINTOWN -- Jeff Bruno, a junior at Mooney High School, lifting in the 198-pound class, lifted 500 pounds in the squat, (17-19 year old division) which shattered the state record of 475 pounds in the World Natural Powerflifting Federation meet at the Austintown Community Center Sunday. He also broke the state record in the deadlift lifting 490 pounds, bettering the mark of 475. Bruno then bench-pressed 275 pounds to win the 17-19 year old class and qualified for the national powerlifting event to be held in July.
It was the first powerlifting meet Bruno entered.
Matt Lyden, a junior at Mooney, won the 181-pound class competing in squat, deadlift and bench press.
Pitching aiddemonstration
SALEM -- A demonstration of the "Learn 2 Pitch with Strike Out Strippz" will be held Saturday at the Sports Connection located at 2487 East State Street.
Jack Kucek, former major league pitcher, will be on hand.
The tool will teach pitching techniques, mechanics and drills guaranteed to teach how to throw strikes.

Correction
YOUNGSTOWN -- The ticket prices were in error for the Mahoning Valley Thunder games at the Chevrolet Centre, that were listed in Monday's preview section.
The six different ticket prices listed for each level beneath the seating chart on page D-4 are what GetTix charges customers who order tickets by credit cards over the telephone.
GetTix adds a convenience charge onto each ticket and therefore its ticket prices are more than for tickets purchased in person at the Chevrolet Centre box office or at the Thunder offices at 888 Boardman-Canfield Rd. in Boardman.
The GetTix prices for each ticket are: 57.50 (VIP Level), 47 (Diamond Level), 36.50 (Platinum Level), 31.50 (Gold Level), 26 (Silver Level) and 21 (Bronze Level).
However, the respective ticket prices at the Chevrolet Center and Thunder Office are 53.50, 43.50, 33.50, 28.50, 23.50 and 18.50.
Included in each of the ticket prices is a 3.50 facilities and parking fee.
