Group asks Trumbull support for renewal of cities
WARREN — Trumbull County commissioners are being asked to support a statewide effort to encourage redevelopment of cities.
Dr. Jim Converse, director of Greater Ohio Mahoning Valley, told commissioners at their Tuesday work session that the Valley should take advantage of or seek change in state and federal policies that work against the rebirth of urban areas. The Greater Ohio group promotes public policy to grow the state’s economy and improve its quality of life through intelligent land use.
As cities are revitalized, there will be decreasing use of farmland to support urban sprawl, Converse said.
He explained that the Brookings Institution, a Washington, D.C., think tank, has concluded an 18-month land use study and will make its finding and recommendations available to the Valley on May 23.
