China replacement services listed in magazines

Dear Heloise: Several years ago, you published where one could get information on china that was discontinued or hard to find. I would greatly appreciate it if you could reprint this. Gloria in New Jersey
You can find advertisements for these replacement services in the back of many women's magazines. Most companies have a toll-free number to use. You also can check using your computer by going to a search engine and either typing in "china dishes" or the specific name of the pattern you are looking for. Before calling, have handy as much information as possible on the china or silverware you are trying to match. Heloise
Dear Heloise: We go through a lot of soups in our home, and they now come in pull-top cans. This makes it easier for the kids to open, but there is a hazard that comes with these cans.
Once, when I was washing out the can for recycling, the rim of the can cut into my finger. Luckily I wasn't pressing too hard or I would have done some serious damage. Now, when washing out these cans, I make a point to do so carefully. A.M., Omaha, Neb.
Dear Heloise: Whenever I have to move sprinklers, run a soaker hose or top off the pool, I set my oven timer to go off at the required time. Marge, New Caney, Texas
Here are two hints from Patricia of Utah:
In regard to the hint about removing sweaters or any garment that might mess up your makeup: I use a scarf over my head, and it protects my makeup and my hairdo.
Referring to the letter from a reader telling how she uses address labels, which are wonderful ideas, I have another idea: I use mine when I turn in film to be developed. Just make sure you ask for a piece of tape to put over it to make sure it stays put.
Patricia, great hints. And speaking of address labels, here is what Esther Wulff of San Diego had to say: "I would like to add one more useful idea regarding address labels. I use them when returning items to department stores where I am asked to fill out a short return form with information such as name, address, etc.
"Instead of writing down all that information, which often takes a couple of minutes to complete, I stick one of those labels on the form. Not only is it faster, but also the salesperson as well as the person behind me are relieved and often comment on what a great idea that is." Heloise
Dear Readers: Never leave notes on the door for repair people, family or friends. Notes invite burglars to stop and rob, especially if you write the time of your return! Heloise
