Youngstown is No. 5 seed in playoffs

BOSSIER CITY, La. -- The Youngstown SteelHounds enter the Central Hockey League playoffs as the No. 5 seed after falling to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, 6-4 Sunday.
The SteelHounds (34-20-10) will play No. 2 seed Colorado (46-17-2) in the first-round of the playoffs, starting Friday in Loveland, Colo.
The Mudbugs quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 5:07 of the game on goals from Chris Brassard, Jason Basile and Joe Ori.
Jeff Christian answered for the SteelHounds but Jason Williamson and Karlis Zrrnis added goals for the Mudbugs for a 5-1 score after one period.
Lone goal
Youngstown's John Wheaton scored the only goal of the second period and Jeff Alcombrack scored on a power play with 5:57 remaining in the game to make it 5-3.
But Bossier-Shreveport's Dan Wildfong wiped out the comeback with a goal just 52 seconds later. Matt Hanson of Youngstown scored with 1:12 remaining to complete the scoring.
Bossier-Shreveport (44-14-6) goes into the playoffs as the top seed in the Northern Conference.
Colorado won four of five games against the SteelHounds this season and is 8-1 all-time against Youngstown. The SteelHounds are 0-4 in Loveland, Colo.
"We really do match up well with Colorado despite the record against them," said SteelHounds coach Kevin Kaminski. "All five games this season ... have been competitive ... and a bounce here or there could have easily changed them outcome."
Games 1 and 2 in Colorado are scheduled to start at 9:05 p.m. The middle three games of the best-of-7 series will be played at the Chevrolet Centre April 4, 6 and 7, all at 7:05 p.m. The series will return to Colorado, if necessary, for Games 6 and 7 on April 10-11.
SteelHounds 3, Tulsa 2, OT
TULSA, Okla. -- Tab Lardner scored two goals, including the game winner to give the SteelHounds the victory.
Lardner got Youngstown on the board with 10:04 remaining in the first period with a power play goal, assisted by Jeff Christian and Shaun Landolt.
That goal came exactly two minutes after Tulsa's Mike Wiggins scored the first goal of the game on an unassisted power play tally.
The SteelHounds took a 2-1 lead with 10:02 remaining in the second period when Lardner fed Dallas Anderson for the goal.
But Tulsa evened the score again with 1:22 to go in the period on Spencer Carbery's short-handed tally.
Christian and Jeff Alcombrack earned the assists on Lardner's game-winner, which came with 25 seconds remaining in overtime.
David Currie stopped 19 shots to pick up the win in goal.
