WRTA announces cuts in bus routing

YOUNGSTOWN — The Western Reserve Transit Authority announced what cuts in service, including elimination of night rides and rides to Warren, will be made April 2 in an attempt to save money in the future.

James Ferraro, WRTA’s executive director, explained the series of changes in busing services on Monday, after The Vindicator received an anonymous letter stating that the changes will be made too quickly for some riders to make proper arrangements.

Ferraro said the public was given an opportunity to voice concerns, but the changes must be made now. “We had the public hearing three weeks ago to give people the chance to respond to what we were proposing. Now , we have decided to go ahead with those changes,” he said. “The longer we wait, the harder it will be to stay open.”

Transit officials have said a large reduction in state and federal funding is to blame for the upcoming cuts to routes and services.
