More coyote sightings in Ohio

COLUMBUS (AP) _ Coyote sightings have moved beyond Ohio's rural areas and into suburbia, state officials say.

The nocturnal predators live in all of Ohio's 88 counties, but they are often so elusive that when they are spotted, residents usually call the state Division of Wildlife for advice.

''We do get calls from farmers if they're having a problem with losing livestock, but I would say the majority of calls that we get are from people in the suburbs,'' said Donna Daniel, a wildlife biologist with the agency's Columbus office.

Sightings often coincide with the animal's breeding time, between January and March.

The coyote population has steadily increased during the past 10 years, officials say. The animals are smart and highly adaptable — able to live just about anywhere while remaining almost invisible.
