COLUMBUS -- The first time was particularly memorable for Georgetown.
Isaiah Felder scored 11 points, including a basket with 2:40 left that provided the winning margin in the G-Men's 42-41 victory over Berlin Hiland in a Division IV state semifinal Friday.
Jay Chadwell scored 14 points and his freshman brother Jess Chadwell added 11 points for the G-Men (27-0), who meet Columbus Harvest Prep in today's championship game. Both schools are in the state finals for the first time.
It will mark the first time two unbeaten teams have met for the small-school state title since Delphos St. John's bested New Washington Buckeye Central in the 1983 title game.
In a bruising, physical, defensive-oriented battle, Georgetown had just enough to survive two threats in the final 11 seconds by the Hawks.
Joel Gause scored 24 points for Hiland (22-5), which was chasing its first state title since winning in 1992.
Cutting it close
Hiland used a 5-0 spurt to pull to 40-39 with 3:07 left on Gause's fastbreak layup, but Georgetown came right back by feeding its big man, Felder, down low. He powered in a bank shot off a reverse pivot for the G-Men's final points of the game.
Everything would ride on their defense the rest of the way.
Mikkel Plannthin then drove the lane and was all alone for a layup to cut the lead to 42-41 with 2:19 left.
The G-Men missed two shots their next trip down the floor, but Jay Chadwell, a third-team All-Ohioan, forced a turnover by falling on a loose ball and calling a timeout. He then turned around and gave the ball up when he raced headlong down the floor and lost the ball out of bounds.
The Hawks set up for a possible game-winning shot, with Gause penetrating and passing back to Jon Weaver on the left wing. His 3 was long with 8.1 seconds left. On the rebound, Felder was fouled but missed the front end of a bonus situation.
After a timeout, Casey Kaufman hurried the ball down the floor. His pass to the wing for Weaver was tipped by Cory Kidwell, and the ball bounced tantalizingly close to the out-of-bounds line while time melted away. Kaufman then reached in and grabbed the ball, but the final buzzer sounded before he could get off a shot.
Georgetown had never won a district or regional title before this year and had not posted an unbeaten regular season since 1964. The G-Men have gone 8-0 in games decided by five or fewer points.

Marquis Mathis tossed in a 10-foot shot, the buzzer sounding the instant it left his hand, to send the game into a second overtime. Second-team All-Ohioan Remon Nelson scored 15 points, opening the second overtime with a 15-foot bank shot, and the fifth-ranked Warriors (24-0) never trailed again.
Dane Givner, who finished with 10 points, hit two free throws in the final 37 seconds of the second extra period to preserve the win.
Joe Baker had 24 points for Holgate (17-9) before fouling out early in the second overtime. Jared Clady added 11 points and Logan Brubaker had nine points, six rebounds and seven assists.
The Tigers were undone in part by their inability to hit free throws. They missed three consecutive foul shots in the last minute of the first overtime that would have expanded their lead. In the second overtime, they missed both free throws, finishing 14-of-23 at the line.
