Trustees weigh Aqua as sole water supplier

Trustees registered their support for the Mahoning County sales tax.
BOARDMAN -- Township Administrator Jason Loree hopes to meet next month with representatives of Aqua Ohio to discuss its becoming the township's sole water provider.
Roughly half of township residents are Aqua customers with the remainder getting their water from Youngstown.
Trustee Kathy Miller made a motion at Thursday's trustees meeting to ask Aqua to submit a proposal to supply water to all of Boardman.
"I thought I had made that motion at the last meeting," Trustee Elaine Mancini said.
Her motion from earlier this month dealt with pursuing specialized legal counsel to prepare for results of a study by Youngstown of its water system.
It also called for Loree to discuss with the private water company options for providing water to the entire township.
Mancini's motion passed unanimously earlier this month.
Miller said she also wants to get residents involved in exploring the advantages and disadvantages of incorporation of the township and of forming a water district.
Support for sales tax
In other business, trustees unanimously approved a resolution in support of Mahoning County's continuous half-percent sales tax on the November ballot. The vote came after a presentation by George Tablack, county administrator.
