North Pool finally gets bids
YOUNGSTOWN — After failing twice to find a company interested in building a new North Pool, two companies submitted proposals today for the project.
The apparent low bid of $1,453,566 came from A.P. O'Horo of Liberty. The other proposal of $2,223,619 came from Parella Pannunzio Inc. of Youngstown.
The engineer's estimate on the pool was $1.5 million. City officials revised the engineer's estimate of $1.1 million during the design process discovering that the project would be more costly than first thought, said Carmen S. Conglose Jr., deputy director of the city's department of public works.
The North Pool project has experienced numerous delays and was to be built last year. The completion date for the new pool is July 27, and will open in early August. That's more than halfway through the 2007 city swimming season.
